6 months with rockwell

i cannot believe i have had 6 months with this cheeser. he is seriously a joy. i love him to death and cannot imagine my days without his beautiful laugh, cheesy smile or his perfectly soft skin. there were a few weeks where he struggled to sleep and hated the car seat, which meant i never wanted to go anywhere. but now, he has turned a corner and is so much fun. here are some things that i want to remember about him at this age...

  • he rolls all over the place
  • laughs like crazy
  • chews on everything he can get his hands on
  • grabs his toys
  • is so close to sitting up by himself
  • loves to eat oatmeal cereal and peas for dinner every night
  • tried sweet potatoes and green beans on thanksgiving
  • getting attached to mom and dad, cries when new people hold him
  • sleeps on his belly with his bum in the air
  • goes to sleep between 6 & 7 pm and wakes up once to eat & is up for the day at 6-7 am
  • has started to like mickey mouse club house
  • plays in his vw beetle walker all the time
  • doesn't scream in the car all the time anymore, just when he's tired or hungry
  • grabs at everything we're holding, phones especially
  • loves to eat his toes
  • loves to be outside and enjoys when we take him on walks in the stroller or erg0
  • he did wonderfully at his 6 month check up. he cried for a minute after his shots, but then calmed down pretty quickly

here are his 6 month stats:

head circumference: 17.1 inches (55%)
length: 28 inches (95%)
weight: 18.5 pounds (67%)

i love love love this boy in his diaper. i can squeeze all his squishiness and give him kisses on his tummy. plus he can eat his toes without anything getting in the way. win win for both of us.

tyler and i always talk about how much we love our son and sometimes stop in amazement that he is ours, that we have a little human product of us, of our love. i cannot express how amazing that makes me feel. i feel so blessed to be a mother. i love my rockwell boy so dang much! please don't let the next 6 months go by as fast as the last!

happy half birthday little boy!

some new tricks

rockwell is growing up waaaay too fast. i try to document all his "firsts" and his awesome accomplishments. so here they are, rockwell's new tricks....

he sits in his bumbo all the time now and he loves it. it is so dang cute seeing him sit up like a little boy! he also loves his reflection. not too long after i took this picture he got fussy. i turned him around and he instantly started smiling at his reflection. it melts me!

he LOVES his little beetle walker! he sits in it all the time and it usually keeps him entertained for a while so i can eat lunch, start laundry or get dressed. he scoots backwards, but hasn't mastered the art of moving forward yet. he also likes to sit in his car while he watches disney junior, which only captures his attention for a short time. hey, i'll take what i can get!

since the summer continued to linger around here we occasionally got to enjoy a nice little dip in the pool. rockwell still loves his floatie, he just leans back and relaxes. i can't wait to see how he does in the water next summer!

now that the weather has cooled down a bit, i decided to start taking rockwell on walks more often during the day. i wasn't sure he was big enough for the stroller without his infant car seat, but we gave it a go and it is perfect. he fits so well and i just strap some toys onto his harness and off we go. he usually lasts in there for a 30 minute walk and sometimes he'll fall asleep!

basically, i feel like he changes everyday. he continues to grow and learn more and more each day. he is still a very smiley baby and laughs SO much. he cracks me up. sometimes his personality wears me out because it seems like he always wants to be entertained, nothing keeps his attention too long, but thats okay. i get to see his personality developing and its so amazing to watch!

first time eating rice cereal

i cannot believe that rockwell is old enough to eat rice cereal. it seems like just yesterday he was placed in my arms for the first time! at his 4 month check up our pediatrician recommended that we try rice cereal once a day for the next couple months to get him used to eating with a spoon & the texture. it's exciting to see him experience things for the first time, but i am missing my little baby baby already! but really, this whole parenthood thing, i feel like i'm always excited about what's next, yet sad about the fact that he is growing up so fast. i guess i should just get used to it.

and alas, the photos of his first rice cereal experience... he really was happy most of the time, it was only at the end that he was hungry and frustrated with the fact that he couldn't just suck the food off the spoon. :)

sorry son, i had to post this photo, it's still so cute!

4 months!

my rockwell is 4 months old!!! how is this happening so dang fast? sometimes i wish i could somehow remember everything so vividly, so i never forget how life is at this very moment. he is always learning something new and changing so quickly. here are a few things i want to remember about rockwell at 4 months...

  • this boy loves to wiggle
  • he giggles and smiles when we tickle him
  • he likes to play... i think he's going to be a little jokester
  • when i lift him up above my head he loves it
  • he gnaws on his fists like crazy
  • super drooly & the past week has had a runny nose, he's definitely teething
  • he is super smiley in the morning when we go get him out of his crib
  • he still sleeps in his swaddle & usually sleeps 8-10 hours a night
  • some nights he still wakes up to eat, but usually goes right back to bed
  • he sits in his bumbo & his beetle walker without looking like a bobble head
  • he's started to do this moan/whine thing instead of just crying when he's cranky, which i actually prefer
  • he doesn't like his carseat all that much so he often cries while we drive
  • loves his baths and peed on me this week while i was bathing him, it was kind of funny
  • has gone in the pool a few times and loves being in his floatie
  • he's getting better at holding onto toys & getting them into his mouth. he's also really good at using his feet to grab his toys when he plays on his mat
  • bed time is my favorite time, he gets changed, swaddled and nursed and falls asleep in my arms. it's the best. i love having those quiet moments to hold my baby before i lay him down. i think i'll remember this the most when he's all grown up.
  • even though some days are frustrating, there are so many wonderful things to be happy about and grateful for

most of all, we love him & we are so glad that he's here with us!!!

4 month stats:
weight: 16 lbs 4 oz (66%)
height: 27 inches (99%)
head circumference: 16 1/2 inches

bath time with rockwell

so this boy graduated from his newborn sling, to sitting in the bath all on his own! he looks like such a big kid. this makes my heart hurt, but also makes me so happy all at the same time.

i think this is just how my life is going to be from now on... so happy about him hitting milestones, but sad about his growing up and getting further and further from being a precious little baby. my little boy is growing up and we are enjoying every new stage.

now that he is out of the sling he can kick the water and splash. it's a little messy, but totally worth it. watching him concentrate on kicking his feet and seeing his reaction is priceless. he is such a cute kid.

rockwell's blessing day

rockwell was given a name and a blessing in our ward on sunday, august 3, 2014. it was such a perfect day. he slept well the night before so we all got a good night sleep and i made all the food the day before so that i wouldn't be stressed out. i also made sure i pumped a bottle so that i wouldn't have to leave the meeting if he got hungry and set out my clothes the night before so that i could get ready quickly.

i fed him just before we left for church so he ended up being super calm and happy during the blessing and then fell asleep in my arms as soon as tyler was done with the blessing. tyler did a great job giving him a beautiful blessing. it was a very happy experience for our little family.

we were blessed to have a lot of family come and support us, it was so wonderful. afterwards we had dinner with our immediate family. rockwell was held and happy all day. he was SO good. we were all so happy about it. i've been dreaming about the day we would bless our first baby for so long and i can hardly believe that it has already come and gone.

rockwell is such a good boy and we are so happy to have him in our family. he makes us smile everyday and keeps us on our toes and we love it!

here is a note i wrote in my phone the morning of his blessing...

Rockwell,

Today is your blessing day. Its 6:04 am and you're eating. I'm just thinking about you. What pictures were going to take, how you'll be during your blessing and how much i love you. I'm thinking about how you'll wear the same blanket i did when i was blessed 27 years ago. Thinking about how grandpa Larry is in the hospital so he won't be able to come. Thinking about how i had a dream that he and grandma surprised us and came to the church. Thinking about how time flies and how i want to vividly remember you at this very moment as you hum while you eat and hold onto me with your clammy little hands. Thinking about how i want to remember how your belly hangs over your diaper like a muffin top because you have a big thick wide torso like your dad and papa rex. Thinking about how you smile as your falling asleep or how you rolled over at the age of 6 weeks. I'm thinking about how many people love you, love us and would do anything for us. I'm thinking about your dad, who loves you so perfectly and has wanted you since i can remember. Tears run down my face. Today he will will use the priesthood & give you a name and a blessing and some special men will stand around you. I know that Heavenly Father and the Savior love you and that the spirit will be there. Rockwell i love you. I love your perfect little face, your cheeks, your little button nose and your spunky smile! Oh and i even love it when you snore! You are my sweet son and i prayed for you for so long. Thank you for coming to our family and into my arms. You are an answer to my prayers and i am so happy to be your mama!
