thanksgiving

this year was simple. dinner at my parents house with family. i made a fresh pumpkin pie with a pumpkin that we grew in the garden! it was delicious. i also made home made cranberry sauce. rockwell tried sweet potatoes for the first time. i think he was more intrigued by the texture than the flavor. it was nice to be home and comfortable and relaxed. it was a wonderful day!

there is much to be thankful for this year. i remember last year, just before thanksgiving, we told our family and friends that we were expecting. and i was thankful for my baby then, but now, that feeling of gratitude and thanks for my sweet baby boy is all consuming. i love him so much. his safe delivery is definitely what i am most thankful for this year!

rolling

on 10/15 he started rolling from his back to his belly. luckily i stopped swaddling him and took the little snuggly bed of blankets out of his crib the day before after reading a horrifying article about SIDS! he rolls all over the place now. i set him down and look away for a second and he's half way across the room! and when he sleeps he is constantly moving around. check out that photo of him on the video monitor... i find him in such funky positions sometimes!

when amanda comes to town

my dear sweet friend amanda came to visit from chicago at the beginning of october and we were SO excited to have her. she had to come for work and extended her trip so that she could see us for a few days. it was such a breath of fresh air to have her here. it just felt right. we used to live across the street from each other and were inseparable for 10 years! now we live so far away that we see each other every few years, but each time we reunite we picked up right where we left off.

i love her SO much and i am so blessed to have her in my life. i dropped her off at the airport, hugged her, started to walk away, then hugged her again just before tears filled my eyes. it's so hard to say goodbye to someone we love so much. but thankfully, she always makes her way back to california every so often for a wonderful reunion. and this time she got to meet rockwell & he loved her, just like i knew he would!

thanks for being so wonderful amanda, we miss you like crazy!

5 months old

i seriously cannot believe that i have a 5 month old! the time keeps going faster and faster. rockwell is a fun boy. he smiles and giggles more and more. he has become more interested in his toys and loves to sit in his beetle walker. he also has started to notice the tv a little more. sometimes i put on disney jr and he will actually watch it for a few minutes. although, i try not to do it too often. he rolls ALL over the place while he sleeps. sometimes he ends up sideways at the bottom of the crib... its so funny! he wakes up once a night to eat, around 4 am, and usually goes back to sleep until about 7:30 am. he started sitting in his stroller without the infant seat and he does well, sometimes he even falls asleep when we go on walks. he wears 6 month clothes now and i think he'll move into 9 month jammies in the next month or so. he isn't super rolly and chubby, just really long. he isn't really a fan of his car seat, he usually screams the entire drive, but occasionally he'll give his mom a break and play with his toys quietly. he is very curious and always enjoys a change of scenery. whenever i wear him in the ergo baby or solely baby wrap he is totally calm and happy and usually falls asleep. it's so precious!

i decided to be festive for his 5 month pictures. i think it was too much work for me. i prefer the simple route. brylee was visiting so she helped me set everything up. she loves rockwell so much. it is SO cute to watch her with him. i am SO excited to see how they play together when rockwell is old enough to keep up with her!
