san diego part V: lefty's & pat's

before we headed back to orange county we stopped in at lefty's for some pizza. then we headed to a little thrift store on the corner. we've driven by pat's many times and i have always wanted to go in. i scored this darling serving dish for a whopping $2... i almost passed it by, but luckily it caught my eye just before i was about to move on to another part of the store. when pat told me it was only 2 bucks i could hardly believe it. i was SO ecstatic! 

although it was a short trip it really was nice. i have really grown to love alone time with tyler. maybe it's because i know one day we will have kids & i hear so many of our friends with children talk about how rare time alone is. i'm just glad we have time together & that we can use this time before the kiddos come along to really strengthen our love for one another. 

san diego part IV: balboa park

balboa park is big and beautiful. there are a lot of things to see and do. there are gardens, museums and lots and lots of architecture to ooh and ahh at. next time we go i'm bringing a blanket and a picnic basket!

today i am thinking about the father's in my life. the men who i have looked up to. the men who have taught me things, even when they didn't know i was watching. today i am grateful for all of my "fathers". i miss my grandpa jack and grandpa mel. i was only 8 when jack passed away... i miss him everyday. i didn't get to know mel for very long, but he was a wonderful example to me.

grandpa jack, i miss eating oranges with you. i miss your swedish pancakes & your back scratches. i miss the sight of you in your chair reading the newspaper. i miss standing by your side in your work shop & the smell of wood shavings. i am still your sweetheart & i love you. 

grandpa mel, i never knew you when you were well, but i know you were a wonderful man. you worked hard & provided a good life for your family. we all miss you. i miss your big blue eyes & your kind smile. 

to the men who are still here with me & bless my life continually, thank you for being a father to me. thank you for loving me. i will always be grateful for you.

san deigo part III: old town

after we got settled into the hotel we decided to explore old town. we rode our bikes, walked around the shops and got tyler some new swim trunks at a cute little surf shop. 

we did our best to not buy any useless trinkets. due to my love of shopping it can become quite difficult  for me to walk by all of those street vendors without buying something. 

i mean who doesn't need a rubber band gun, a sombrero or another coffee mug?

san diego part II: a photoshoot at our hotel

whilst exploring the hotel we decided to do a little photo shoot by this pretty fountain. i got a new hat & i was a little excited about it. there were a few of these fountains on the grounds. it was a great little hotel right in old town. 

it was perfect. 

the lobby had really awesome lighting...

we just stayed one night and enjoyed the time together alone. the weather was great and we got to go in the hot tub before dinner and after breakfast the next day. 

we all know how much i love hot tubbing. 

i was in heaven. 

san diego part I: eat at phil's

 

on our way to our hotel in old town san diego we stopped in at phil's for a late lunch. yes, that is a line that wraps around the building. no, i didn't mind standing in it for nearly an hour.
if the first thought that ran through your mind was "that is so not worth it"...
you are sorely mistaken my friend. 

phil's is THE best bbq i have ever eaten in my life. seriously. i'm not kidding. 

we love it. it had been nearly a year since we had eaten there and that was far too long. thank you to phil's for bringing me joy, satisfaction and a full belly. i am still relishing in those sweet moments of pleasure. 

a quick hello

we had a great time on our little one night getaway to san diego. there are LOTS of pictures to go through and share with all of you. i hope you had a great weekend too!
